With health insurance open enrollment in full swing, we know you are all looking for the best deal. Unfortunately, scammers know that, too.

Please be aware that some disreputable companies are currently texting and cold-calling REALTORS® with offers for health insurance coverage that can be tempting.

Unfortunately, many of the offers come from companies who are not licensed in North Carolina and may not be authorized to sell insurance at all.

We encourage you to be extremely cautious when considering your health insurance options and exercise all due diligence before providing any personal identification or financial information. Be extra vigilant if a company contacts you unsolicited rather than you making the initial inquiry.

If you suspect you have been approached by a scammer, you can report it to 1-877-FTC-HELP (1-877-382-4357) or visit ftc.gov/complaint.

When will NC REALTORS® offer Association Health Plans?

REALTORS® in North Carolina may be easy targets for these scams, considering the recent passing of Senate Bill 86 authorizing Association Health Plans and the ability for associations like NC REALTORS® to provide group health insurance to our members.

While we are extremely proud of this legislative victory and grateful for the support of our members to help get this bill passed, there is one more Federal change that has to happen before we can officially offer plans. As we work to clear that final hurdle, staff is vetting insurers to partner with us so that plans will be ready when the path is clear.

Once that happens, you will be the first to know. Please continue to read weekly email updates from NC REALTORS® and watch for updates on ncrealtors.org.
